Lyrics: Lullaby to a Newborn

by Joy Saunders Lundberg

(Mother)
My baby I’ve waited with love in my heart
To cradle you here in my arms,
To hold you so closely, to sing you my songs,
And keep you from all worldly harm.

(Father)
I’ve yearned for the season when you would arrive
And brighten my day with your smile.
I dreamed of the many sweet hours we would share
When you would be with us, my child.

(Chorus - Both)
In faith we have prayed to our Father above,
To grant us the light of your love.
And now he has lovingly answered our prayer.
At last you are here in our care.

(Mother)
I promise you, dear one, to teach you of God,
To share all the goodness I’ve known.
I’ll always remember that you are His child,
And guide you to His heavenly home.

(Father)
I’ll patiently help you to grow and fulfill
All you were designed to become.
With joy overflowing I’ll take your small hand
And lead you with love, little one.

(Both - repeat chorus)

We knew you were there, somewhere, dear child.
We knew we would one day be blessed.
And now we received you with thankful hearts,
Your birth parents, no, but your real parents, yes.
